I'm guessing we become more comfortable with landing because the amount of time left for something to go horribly wrong has been greatly diminished!

Cheers; it was a wonderful experience. Switzerland and Italy are firmly in my "main holiday" category for each year. Even though I have seen many of these places before, sometimes more than once, I am still drawn back there by the magnetism and sheer beauty of this part of Europe.

Yes, my palms are always sweating at take-off but, illogically, I am quite relaxed at the prospect of landing.

I confess to being particularly enticed by this tale of your travels and for a very specific reason.

About a year or so ago I discovered a program titled Swiss Railway Journeys on the television. They are hour-long programmes, which discuss the various rail systems throughout Swizterland, the engines and cars, when they were purchased, when lines were put in, etc. While informative I simply watch it for the unbelievable scenery. To me Switzerland is Valhalla. No place has ever made my heart race or piqued my travel interest as much as has Switzerland.

Some of the names you drop in your story are ones familiar to me through the television programme and I'm simply green with envy that you have actually made your way through the Swiss country side in such a wonderful manner.

It appears that we both share a few things in common when it comes to flying. I'm not a fan of it, but appreciate the expediency of it, especially when compared to the rather dismal service offered by rail in my country.

My seat belt stays on. Period. Just in case. My palms sweat during take off, but never during landing. And I frequently find myself asking myself "What was that noise? Was that normal?"

The one spot we differ is on seat preference. I think I would enjoy a window seat...if I could fit. Being 6'4" I find my shoulders too wide for any given seat and a window seat means my shoulder is pushed into the fuselage. No fun. Instead I always opt for an aisle seat where I can let my shoulder be bumped by passers by.

A lovely tome Sir Chuff. I can only imagine the low-brow type who would have said, even in tongue-in-cheek, such a thing.

Yeah that one at the top was a pure chance, I didn't realise about the billowing blackness of the ensuing storm until I uploaded it when I got home. I go for weeks without writing anything here and then often do a couple in a short time.
